"Recuso-me a ser invisível" (Manifesto para uma outra visibilidade)
"Not long ago, one of our translators was translating a museum guide into his/her native language. In the first page of the guide, one could read credits for the different professionals involved in the making of the book (photographer, writer…). Our translator felt professionally compelled to make a request to be included. He/She wished to take off his/her invisibility cloak. The negative answer was not a surprise, but a comment from the particular client made him/her wonder. According to the client, this was the first time anyone had ever requested to be included in the credits. Apparently, no one had ever thought about getting rid of the invisibility cloak.
We are so used to doing the job without being seen that we don't even consider making a small request about including our names in the credits. I wonder if we even think about it. I wonder what would happen if we started making requests about it to be able to take off our invisibility cloaks."
